The Crawford School

This program for two and three year olds has been created as a transition place between the home and larger school environment. We follow a holistic approach, meaning we teach the whole child. The purpose of Montessori is “to follow the child” - to provide an environment where the child may explore and discover their own success. For the two and three year old, it means every day they will have opportunity to engage with age appropriate real life tasks, which they will practice and eventually master. This results in confidence, security, freedom, and harmony (Maria Montessori’s recipe for world peace). Respect is the foundation of this program. Respect for oneself, others, and one’s environment. A small class size of four ensures that each child receives the loving guidance that is necessary for them to flourish. We are driven by a passion to teach students “how” to think instead of “what” to think. This not only helps them thrive in their later school experiences, but through out their entire lives.

Kamryn Roberts Crawford

Kamryn Roberts Crawford grew up in Pineville, Louisiana where she fell in love with school, especially her teachers. She was inspired to become a teacher herself so she could create the same magical learning experience for her own students. In 2020 she graduated from Louisiana State University in Elementary Education with a certification in Early Childhood Development. She then taught kindergarten for a year before moving to the Springs at the end of 2021. Once here she decided to get back to nannying as she had done for the previous 10+ years before her teaching career. This is when she started to look into Montessori education and the science backed benefits of it. She is now self taught in the Montessori methods that she applies to her formal teaching education. She also incorporates other teaching philosophies such as Waldorf and play based/nature based learning. While deciding how to help more children through these practices she felt compelled to start her own program in the Springs. Through this program she hopes to make an impact on her students so they can make their own profound impact on the world.
